Overview
Target Lists, or Selections, are pre-configured lists of users that correspond to specific criteria. Target Lists can be used by different parts of Zift PRM such as Events, to target specific sets of users.
Though you can define a Target List based on Organization or Location Attributes, the actions that you perform based on the Target List will be applied to individual users, not the Organization or Location. For example, you could select all of the users employed by Org X and change their industry profile to catering but this would not change the industry attribute of Org X.
You can layer target lists, restricting the candidates for inclusion to those that are or are not in an existing list. This is a powerful way of controlling the frequency and relevance of emails you send to users.
Note: Target lists are snapshots of the database at the time the Target List was created. They will not automatically be updated to reflect changes to users and so should be refreshed immediately before each use.
Target Lists Best Practice
There are many ways to choose which users will be included in a Target List.
To create a Target List that includes users in specific User Groups, you should use the Profiles that apply to the users of that group as the criteria.
You should Refresh Selection Lists before each use. This will ensure that all users that have registered since the last refresh are added and any users that have been inactivated are removed.
While it is possible to manually add Users to a Target List, this approach is not recommended for two reasons. First, when the list is used, these exceptional cases will not be considered. This could result in users receiving unintended communications or being added to User Groups with different rights profiles. Second, any manual addition or removal of a user will not persist through the next Target List refresh. In either case, the value of the Target List to simplify User management is compromised.
